Laminated logs for modern and traditional log construction

Mammutti’s laminated log products are available in both traditional and non-settling variants. The range includes several types of log in different thicknesses, each made from several pieces of timber glued together.

The laminated structure makes the log strong, dimensionally stable and highly resistant to warping. For the builder, this translates into a precise structure, a finished wall surface and a wide range of options for constructing various types of log houses.

The logs are made from Finnish spruce. Spruce is known for its light colour, fine-grained structure and good resistance to moisture. The uniform quality of the timber and the log surfaces, which are almost identical in colour, create a cohesive and tranquil atmosphere in the interior.

Over the decades, traditional laminated logs have been used to build a wide variety of detached houses and holiday homes. Non-settling laminated logs are particularly well-suited to projects characterised by large glazed surfaces, clean lines and precise detailing.

Square-edged logs and Citynurkka give the log house a modern look.

A modern and traditional log cabin

The appearance of the building can be influenced by various corner and profile solutions for the logs. Mammut’s modern Citynurkka design does not feature the traditional cross-corner joint. This creates a minimalist look, in which the log layers continue in a straight line all the way round the building.

In the traditional Classic corner log cabin, the logs are visibly interlocked at the corners, which emphasises the appearance and construction method of a traditional log house.

Corner and profile solutions can have a significant impact on whether a home looks like a modern designer house or a traditional log cabin.

Modern edge profile

The narrower, sharply defined joint between the Mammut square logs creates a modern and minimalist wall surface. The log profile alone has a significant impact on the atmosphere created by the home’s architecture.

Edge profile:

  • emphasises minimalist architecture
  • suitable for a modern log house
  • works well in urban areas where planning regulations govern development
  • creates a consistent look for both interior and exterior surfaces

Minimalist door and window frame designs add the finishing touch to the overall look.

Traditional bevelled profile

The more distinct joint of the bevelled log truly brings out the look and feel of a traditional log house. Bevelled logs are often combined with traditional cross-corner joints, which are a particularly good match:

  • on more spacious plots
  • a traditional courtyard
  • holiday homes
  • in a natural setting

Beveled logs can also be combined with modern log corners and minimalist details. In this way, the traditional log surface and clean-lined architecture create a harmonious whole.

The profile of the logs has a major impact on the appearance of the house. The picture shows a square-edged log on the left and a traditional bevelled log on the right.

Precision-dimensioned log production

Mammutti’s computer-controlled production lines are designed for the manufacture of precision-dimensioned laminated logs. This production process enables the construction of bespoke log structures in strict accordance with the plans.

For the builder, this looks like this:

  • a polished and unique end result
  • as a high-quality log cladding
  • cost-effective production
  • a smoother installation
  • as precisely compatible structures

When log production, materials and expertise in log construction come together, the result is a structure that stands the test of time, both structurally and architecturally.

Mammutti’s Ylikiiminki factory manufactures precision-cut laminated logs for both modern and traditional log construction. High-quality Finnish spruce, carefully selected log profiles and computer-controlled production lay the foundations for a log house that looks finished and is built precisely to plan.
