Timber is a renewable building material that sequesters carbon throughout the building’s life cycle. As it grows, a tree absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, meaning that forests act as major carbon sinks. When raw timber is processed into a long-lasting log house, the carbon remains locked within the structures and is not released back into the atmosphere as the wood decomposes.
